2010 Summer Camps
Our camps are set up in Denver CO, pressed against the beautiful rocky mountains. The camps are hosted through the University of Denver.
Always wondered what it’s like to be on a real set? Itching to play with the latest camera equipment? Ever wished to see your self on the big screen? Epicenter Pictures is launching its summer camps this July and we would like you to stop wondering and step behind the silver screen!
Film is a powerful medium of art, expression and social commentary that permeates the world we live in. Epicenter’s camps offer students the chance to go beyond passive viewership and to step into the filmmaking process itself. The summer camps are more than just an intensive crash course in filmmaking. We offer tracks in Screenwriting, Producing, Directing, Cinematography, Acting and Editing. Each track includes hands-on training, networking and Q&A with Denver film VIP’s, an overview of film history and theory, resume development and MUCH more.
Students come away with more than just practical skills. Leadership, community mindedness and initiative are all emphasized in our sessions as we walk students through the delight of making a movie and into the power of leadership. Critical thinking skills and team building is also incorporated. Our unique peer-mentoring program is staffed by college students with experience in everything from student film to local TV to feature film production.
Think you can take the lights, camera – Action?
Epicenter Summer camps operate on a unique two week schedule.
The first week is focused on theory and technique, with students separated into different disciplines. They train under experienced teachers in their individual fields, with a low 6-1 student to teacher ratio, allowing for plenty of one on one instruction time.
The second week, students come together from their specialized training, and work together on a large, collaborative piece. This allows each of the students to gain experience using the skills and techniques they’ve spent the previous week learning. It also provides a true experience of what a film set should feel like: specialized artists working together on one of the greatest collaborative art forms.
At the end of these two weeks, in addition to the knowledge and experience gained, students will leave with a portfolio piece created as a collaboration with their fellow students.
Epicenter’s unique two week approach
Epicenter Pictures offers a very unique approach to our summer camps, one unlike any other major film camp in the United States. Instead of offering generic camps in “filmmaking” like most camps, Epicenter offers two week camps in specific subjects.
This approach allows students to achieve a mastery of a skill set, as opposed to a limited exposure to a jumble of film crew positions. We believe that this approach better prepares students wishing to work professionally in television and film.
We offer camps in six areas of study. Click on each link for a each specialized 2 week camp curriculum.
